5) and finally (for now) here is a photo of what was, in 1940, the TALLEST building in Africa apart from the Pyramids in Egypt. It was built by a large South African insurance company but is now converted to residential accommodation. We are lucky to have an apartment on the sixth level (from which the previous photo was taken). It is one of the most famous art deco buildings in the southern hemisphere, we are told. Somewhere I have a version of this without that wretched lamp post at the front door (I "airbrushed" it out) - never mind, can't find it right now.
