Bill - I think you mean the pistol :)
The younger ones tend to look like this before the petals unfurl, or maybe this one is just weird! There were several of this variety growing in the botanical gardens down the road from where I live - the rest were pretty much as you describe.

Thanks for your encouragement. I miss not taking as many photos too. Sometimes work gets in the way and I just have to get my head down and get on with it... I still pay a regular visits during these times as it's always great to see what the rest of you are doing :)
