Wonderful, swiftly taken image, of these elusive little characters, Geoff.
I prefer the reds (we still have the shy reds up here in rural Northumberland - and I never have a camera ) But the Yank greys are coming....!
I hear the reds love dark pine forests too.
I have never seen one and would love to get a shot.....Is there any particular place in Northumberland to catch sight of one ?
The only time Ive ever seen one ,personally, was just off the A697 at the village of Powburn (8 milrs south of Wooler) It was in front of my stopped car, caught between me and a quick-witted (street-wise) crow, eyeing it hungrily (probably thinking 'road kill feast!)
I'm pleased to say, the lovely red - who had a massive red bushy tail towering over its cute head - escaped safely!
