Hi Theresa,
I used a 175-500 Sigma lens on my Nikon D50 and set it up on a tripod.ISO 200,spot exposure with a timer for the shutter release.

The moon looks best when its not full and the sky is nice and clear.

Hi mate,mine slips back when pointed skywards.It did this time hence the strange focal length of 690mm :-))
I often use masking tape to hold it in place.
