Day four in the Fotothing house...

I've made more updates today. Some you can see, some you can't.

You now have the ability to reply to individual comments, and track replies, as well as recent comments on your own photos via the new "My Comments" page.

When you log in, you now have the option to 'keep me logged in', which will do just that. Fotothing will keep you logged in, regardless of how long you leave it. A useful and much requested feature - but be careful if you're using someone else's computer!

Behind the scenes, I've optmised some more of the code and moved all static content (images, javascript, etc.) to a separate server for a little bit of extra speed.

There's more to come. Watch this space. -->[ ]

One of the things Adam was VERY concerned with was scalability. Now, i'll profess that i don't know how that works, but are you thinking of how you're gonna handle 25,000 new photographers (and the fame and fortune plus a new Jaguar)? Just checking, and thanks for staying up nights Dom!

cool :)

Would be nice if the home page only showed a maximum of one photo from a given person's Fotothing. Then we'd get more different people's Fotothings to browse through from the home page.

I suppose it depends on usage though. Over time, most people aren't going to upload more than one or two at the same time and with more members, the chances of having blocks of pictures from the same member will go down. Maybe.

Well that's what we found with Fotolog.net. Many people would would have the 6 pix a day, but space the uploading out over as long a period as possible. My routine - if it's any indication - would be to get home, download my photos for the day, size and crop and then have my best 6 ready sometime after dinner and post them evenly until midnight. And still trying to save the best for last because the last one will pick up the overnight comments.

I would consider updating the list of top 15 when a new photo is added - ideally to a static page, so that there's either no db access required for the home page or a very simple query where you already know the 15 ids needed.
