Fotothing would like to announce the arrival of FotoBands, a new dedicated feature for aspiring music artists, fans and festival goers.

If you are a music fan�

You can now peruse the Fotothings of up-and-coming musicians, solo artists and bands. Use their Slideshow feature to find your way through the pre-gigging/studio recording/day-in-the-life antics of different acts while listening to their latest MP3 tracks.

Brilliant! There's nothing better than using photography to capture the atmosphere of a gig, and even listen to some tracks of some unsigned talent. I think it's a great idea.

But why should Pop groups get attention more than - football clubs, gymnastic teams, classical orchestras, Women's Institute Flower Shows...need I go on? It's supposed to be OUR Fotothing. If they have their own site, their own friends can comment on their pictures - FINE! but surely we don't need space taken up on the home page at the expense of having room for as many new photos as we used to have displyed there.

In terms of space, I don't think its presence has become particularly encroaching on the fundamental features of Fotothing - the bands' logos are virtually just interactive buttons located at tbe bottom of the page.

Sheila _ I understand that you are arguing over the principle of the matter that bands (as a genre) are getting more visual focus than any other 'group' - and why should they?, but I suspect that this is because of the ability to upload MP3 tracks and showcase their stuff musically as well as their photos which make Fotothing a particularly appealing site to bands...

It seems to me that the original simplicity and clarity of the Fotothing website is being lost as more and more 'other matter' encroaches on the pages. The world wide web surely has room for every interest in it's own place. I am not happy about this.

FOTOTHING is about photos, and band photos are just a catagory in the magical world of photography. Fotothing is trying something new and it seams like a few people are throwing their cameras out of their prams.
I for one am enjoying watching Fotothing grow and am enjoying and embracing the changes.

I'm quite looking forward to FotoBobboTheKing, where people send in photos of me being great on request.

Point taken Bobbo. I think the only point of importance here is the inclusion of this eliminates some of the "Recently Uploaded" pictures. New members rely on their all-too-brief exposure on the Home Page to get their first comments and start to join the community. Reducing the number of these reduces the chances of them becoming "returning" members because they're gone in a flash. It's giving exposure to a minority at the expense of welcoming all new members into the Fotothing community.

There is an mp3 music option in the gallery which proves that music and photography is a good mix of audio / visual talent.
Maybe some photographers are looking for music for their slideshows just as maybe some bands are looking for ideas for artwork ?

Actually the site belongs to ADVFN.plc and as such its their right to place any advertising on their fotosite, This is one of the conditions of being on a free to use site, nothing is free and they have to make money to help keep these blogs/sites operating, its a minor thing compared to some sites at least you dont get popup windows every 10 seconds.
I would like to thank the owners for allowing me the space to express myself. So as Bobbotheking says chill out enjoy the ride. :).

If the understanding is that they are not many of us wonder why they get so much exposure at the expense of photographs which could appear on the front page - the "Showcase" of Fotothing.

And a way of encouraging increased income through encouraging people to take up Pro status.

Actually, for me, whenever I observe beautiful scenery (when travelling), it's always in accompaniment with my iPod. For me, sound and vision are a marriage (and that's applicable to pictures too) - I think the added features only enhance Fotothing's appeal; not discounts it.

how would they get a spot in the band part? I've looked at the join up page but there isn't a 'band' section...

I'd love an area that was just for Family History Type photos. Maybe you have to be super into this like me. I understand we can post whatever we want but there's a whole group out there that loves old photos of every kind. They get lost in everything here ...

The general ideas ok but where will it end, will fotothing eventually be something to be lost amongst a load of new additions to the site. keep fotothing seperate from the other new ideas, nothing stops the bands putting their photos on here like everyone else. if you do I will sing Karaoke to my photo's. that'll teach you.
