depending on the distance from you, yes, the 55-200 would be an excellent choice for this kind of portraits. i love the d5000 it has an outstanding resolution and the lens vibration reduction makes up for the higher possibility of distortion, by not holding the tele lens still enough. also the swivel screen makes it possible to hold the camera higher in case someone is blocking the view.
