Bill! Thanks for visiting my woodpecker. It's a bit unfortunate that THIS gets all the attention when I've had better shots that I would rather have people visiting so often :) Oh well... at least it isn't crap.
Games - locals are already trying to plan how to work around them when they come to town. I'm thinking of taking a couple weeks off and heading somewhere warm!
Beautiful photo! We have woodpeckers where we live that are smaller then your bird. Ours hop up the sides of the trees; they're not very big and are really funny to watch.
We get the smaller downies and hairy woodpeckers too, but the pileated are much less common at the feeder - making them quite something to get a decent shot of.
You know, I know absolutely nothing about these sort of small winged song birds. When I first saw this photo some time ago I thought maybe it had a head wound. There appeared to be blood coming from the corner of its mouth. I didn't say anything because I don't even know really if birds are red blooded creatures. Still it seems to be hanging on by its finger nails. Was this bird Ok at the time you photographed it.
:) Very much a happy, healthy bird. She was eating the suet in the cage :) Yeah, I know... it gets hard to find interesting things to say about a picture that has been up for a bit over a year!
Hi dragonspeed !
You have many beautifull pictures...but
I have a question to you...
How can it be, that, your picture in front of Fotothing (home) same picture, in long time, can be there for so long time.. I wonder why ?
Torlau
that is the same with everything else in fotothing. it is stuck in a groove. a ship in open seas with sails and rudder broken, drifting aimlessly. the "illegal content" blanket used where there is nothing illegal, and non pro members shamelessly using the art platform for their promotions and advertisement. all it would take is one person or a small group of volunteers to keep order. and the same people that used to do that are still in the membership and i am sure would take up the duty again without charging a penny.
So dis is de famous pill eated woodpeck'r. I thought dis was de Rocky Mountain pecker. Looks a bit over dosed the way it is hanging on the edge here. If it were actually a Rocky Mountain Pecker it would be said to be a bit anorexic, some kinda eatin disorder anyway so thin and skinny.
What's your secret Brian???
How did you get this bird to pose like this and not move for over 3 1/2 years?
Are you into bird hypnosis???
Or did you simply nail it in place???:)
