Grave of an unknown soldier at Dieppe.

The graves are laid head to head, in the German style. After the failed attack on Dieppe the dead were buried by the Germans. After retaking Dieppe in 1944 the Allies left the graves undisturbed in order to allow the dead to rest. The only Allied cemetery laid out in this fashion.

There are some New Zealand, British, French and other allied soldiers in the cemetery as well.

Too many graves were simply labeled " A Soldier of the Second World War" "A Canadian Regiment" and dated 19th August 1942 and with a line of "Known unto God"

They will live in my memory forever - as I hope do for all.
