Butterflies do not eat anything but nectar as adults. As caterpillars, they are ravenous little eaters and consume large portions of leaves. However, as the adult butterfly,it is free to flit about sipping nectar. Butterflies also like to sip water from the ground, enjoying the minerals from the soil. This activity is called puddling. I happened across this butterfly "puddling" at the lake while on vacation in Michigan. | |
