It is native to Europe, western and central Asia, and northwestern Africa. The scientific name means "finger-like" and refers to the ease with which a flower of Digitalis purpurea can be fitted over a human fingertip. It's supposed to be a biennial plant, but in Florida (zone 9) it will last 4 to 5 years. It produces tall stalks loaded with beautiful bell shaped flowers. Mine are pink and white.
We have had about 12 inches of rain this week. I was told this plant is supposed to bloom once a a year...but much to my surprise all of my plants have multiple bloom stalks. This would mean the second bloom this year. The rain has done some good. I am thankful! | |
