Valle de Casablanca.

Quien viaja de Santiago a Valparaíso comprueba cómo, de repente, el paisaje cambia del cielo a la tierra al salir del túnel Zapata. El estrés acumulado en la capital, el aire contaminado, el gris de los edificios, los campos yermos... todo desaparece y se transforma en un valle verde, un aire limpio y un ambiente que invita a la contemplación. Es el Valle de Casablanca. Diez o 12 años atrás, un panorama que no existía y que era el típico que se veía a lo largo de todo el país: tierras mal explotadas, descuidadas, polvo en suspensión... tristeza y abandono. Hoy Casablanca es todo menos eso. Por el contrario, es un gran futuro para la industria vitivinícola, al decir de quienes creyeron en él y han logrado sacarlo de su postración y convertirlo en una réplica sureña -o esperan que así sea- de Napa Valley, California. VENDIMIA recorrió parte del valle y comprobó que la apasionada descripción de esa zona por parte del pionero de la industria del vino en Casablanca, Pablo Morandé, se ajusta estrictamente a la realidad. "Casablanca es un valle único en Chile, hasta ahora. No se ha descubierto otro igual -expresa con entusiasmo-. Está a 18 kilómetros en línea recta del mar, una neblina matinal que le causa amaneceres frescos en primavera y verano y que genera un microclima que origina los mejores blancos de Chile". Y también tintos de calidad, como Pinot Noir y Merlot, entre otros. Observar el valle desde la Ruta 68 es agradable. Verlo desde la altura de la Cuesta Zapata es todo un espectáculo. Pero comparar lo que hoy se ve con lo que era hace una década, suena increíble. En la medida que se avanza se divisan las instalaciones de Veramonte, de Indómita, de Viña El Rosal y otras que impresionan al pasar. La bodega de Viña Indómita, de Nostros, amenaza con convertirse en el icono del valle: una gran casona ¿o castillo? blanca en lo alto de una colina domina el paisaje. Y, sin embargo, todo era muy diferente en 1982, hace 20 años, cuando Pablo Morandé se instaló allí con la primera viña, acompañado por su amigo Sergio Salgado...
