The Yengele Forest Reserve in our hamlet Trafalgar, South Coast, KZN, South Africa
This tiny reserve of no more than about 20ha lies to the immediate south of the village of Trafalgar. It is one of the last, and indeed the largest, remnant of coastal dune forest in KwaZulu-Natal, consisting of pristine and primary dune forest featuring a density of indigenous trees such as the specially protected Red and Coastal milk woods. Its beach frontage is part of the Trafalgar Marine Reserve and to the south of it again lies the Mpenjati Nature Reserve, which lies both north and south of the mouth of the Mpenjati River, also forming a part of the Trafalgar Marine Reserve. The Yengeli Forest is run by Ezemvelo-KZN-Wildlife and part of it is accessible from Mpenjati on foot.
Its also home to breeding pairs of Fish Eagles
