The solution:

In Lanzarote the grapes grow on the ground not with sticks. They put them in a kind of hole, so if the rain falls (not often) it reaches the roots of the plant. They build a little wall around the hole so it will be protected against the wind which blows about 70-80% of the time on Lanzarote.

This kind of fields can be found in a big part of the island.
