In one of the most beautiful parks in my hometown stands a group of statues as a tribute to all the people who are killed in WWII

Every year on May 4th people in Holland are having 2 minutes of silence at 8pm. to honour all citizens and soldiers who died in this war. A lot of meetings are held all over the country to honour them....

Although its mainly a tribute for the victims of WWII its a tribute too for all Dutch people who died in other wars.

Lest not forget.......

Lovely statues, and how great that you honour the dead with two minutes silence...these traditions need to be kept alive for the younger generations as a reminder of the horrors of war...

Barbara, I heard yesterday that the last years, the younger generations are more and more engaged to these tributes! And thats a good thing of course!!

Today, may 5th there are festivities all over Holand to celebrate the Freedom of our country!

wow..it is an special place of your town indeed, too many feelings here...nobody must forget the consecuences of the war....
did you have a friend or relative who died in this war??

No Paulina, but I heard lots of stories from my father who was working for the Resistance during the War. My parents lived in the western part of Holland then and they had to eat (flower-)bulbs the last winter of the War because there wasn't any food left.....

omg...that is the kind of stories that really makes feel so sad....i have seen some movies about the second war...but..nothing is compared when i can hear stories from people who had to live and face the war...and being part of the sad situation

Yes Paulina it is sad!! And it looks like nobody has learned a lesson because there still are several wars nowadays!! Most of them because of difference of religion....
