Brownsea Island, Dorset
Black-headed Gull (Chroicocephalus ridibundus) 1st Summer
Gulls can be very confusing birds to identify due to their various ages and plumages throughout the year. Clues to this birds identity lie with its Red Bill and faint black tip, Reddish legs, and the trace of a hood coming through on the head. Confirmation can be found in the white outer primary bordered with dark grey that can be seen protruding from the back of the Bird.
They are common all year round at Poole Harbour, where they also breed. Brownsea being one such place where there is a colony | |
