The Citrus County Courthouse in Citrus County Florida was built in 1912 and is on the Register of Historic Places. At that time it cost $55,888.00 to build
The building includes a copper cupola with a clock face on each of the four sides.
In 1961 Elvis Presley came to Cirtus County to film his 9th movie "Follow That Dream". The climatic courtroom scene was filmed entirely in the 2nd floor courtroom.
There is also a road (that leads to the Gulf of Mexico Beach) called Follow That Dream in an adjoining county where the beach scene was filmed.
Many locals appeared in the film.
Each year "When Elvis Came to Town" is an origial muscial play/production based on the events of 1961 when Elvis and his entourage arrived to film "Follow that Dream" and it takes place in the courthouse. | |
